Exotic car startup SP Automotive has a concept for the dreamers out there. The insectoid/F1-looking model, called the Chaos, is a V10-powered monster which the company claims is the fastest car in the world…or will be, if it sees production.

SP Automotive plans on offering the Chaos in two variations; in its less ambitious ‘Earth’ version, the model’s 4.0L V10 is tuned for 2,049 horsepower, while the top-tier ‘Zero Gravity’ version — which comes with a sticker price of nearly $15 million — gives drivers 3,065 horsepower to play with, in a lightweight package; there’s a lot of zylon, titanium and carbon fiber in the build, and the ultra-lightweight variant weighs in at just over 2,800 pounds.

Like the car’s purported track performance, those numbers are only a possibility right now, as the company’s prototype hasn’t been officially measured or timed. But to put that kind of power in perspective: the turboprop engine in a contemporary plane like the new Beechcraft Denali delivers about 1,300 HP. SP Automotive states that the Zero Gravity Chaos will hit 60 MPH in 1.55 seconds, and move from naught to 186 in 7.1 seconds; its top speed is said to exceed 310, which would make it the fastest car in the world.

SP Automotive’s enthusiasm about building cars is infectious. The website lists the Chaos’ components, and they include turbochargers fabricated from a mix of titanium, ceramic, magnesium and carbon fiber, as well as a wealth of 3D printed parts, possibly including the engine block of the ZG. As Mel Brooks and Buck Henry can tell you, every Chaos needs its Control, and the Chaos brake system uses carbon-ceramic discs and 3D printed calipers of titanium or a magnesium-based cocktail.

The car’s interior is utilitarian and as all-business as the car’s exterior, with a yoke steering wheel and controls that are mainly touchscreen-based.

SP Automotive has announced that they have sold the first Chaos. The company’s production will be limited to 20 examples for each continent.
