DSD playback in a mobile unit? Read on.

Luxury audio brand Astell & Kern have revealed a limited edition stainless steel audio device that is meant to make music lovers shout for joy the second the headphones hit their ears.

According to many audiophiles, the new AK380 MP3 player is considered the best player available, blending advanced acoustic engineering with a unique industrial design. The AK380 comes with a slide-on headphone amplifier and a stunning Van Nuys case to make it even more impressive.

Astell & Kern designed the stainless steel case so it is able to withstand the harshest conditions, but it would seem silly to expose such a piece of audio mastery to inhospitable environments.

The AK380 comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, along with 256 GB of built-in memory, dual 32-bit DACs, and advanced jitter reduction. It will play MP3 files, but is really geared toward audio enthusiasts who crave the definition, vinyl-like warmth and separation of DSD-256 files, the current cutting-edge of mastering-grade digital sound.

There is also a bit-perfect CD ripper and desktop dock available for purchase for the AK380. The unit has been limited to a production run of 200 examples, and retails at just under $6,000.
