MB&F Introduces the Stunning ‘Horological Machine No. 8’

Max Büsser and his skilled craftsmen at MB&F have done it again with this year’s edition of its Horological Machine series timepiece, HM8.

Standing for Horological Machine No. 8, the HM8 watch has a distinctive automotive feel thanks to design and styling inspired by Can-Am auto racing.

Can-Am racing was a unique series where regulations were thrown out the window. Speed was king, so the cars in the sport had plunging lines and open roofs. Büsser decided to model the HM8 after these cars to honor what would’ve been the 50th year of the Can-Am Challenge Cup (the series folded in 1987).

The HM8 boasts a case with a rounded front and curvy sides with a blend of both brushed and polished surfaces. Just like in a Can-Am car, there is a set of “roll bars” above the top of the watch face, and in this case, they have been made out of titanium to offer a contrasting look to the either red gold or white gold options for the timepiece.

Powering the HM8 is a 247-piece take on a Girard-Perregaux base caliber that has been modified. The movement can be viewed from the front and back via a pair of sapphire crystal lenses.

While not technically a limited edition watch, MB&F will only make 20 to 30 of the Horological Machine No. 8 per year. Both the white gold and red gold examples will cost $82,000.
