Volvo’s XC90 Excellence marks the brand’s foray into top-of-the-line luxury. The vehicle was shown off at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show recently.

“This is our new flagship car,” Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo design chief, said. “We have created the ultimate luxury experience of Scandinavian design—this is the car that demonstrates what the name Volvo now means.”

The XC90 Excellence has an impressive interior that takes its inspiration from luxury limousines. It has a seven-seat interior standard, but the five rear seats can be swapped out for two luxurious seats that can recline and have increased leg room. These upgraded rear seats have a massage and ventilation function, while the center console can fold into tray tables. In addition, there are temperature-controlled cupholders, a refrigerator, and touchscreen displays to enjoy on board.

The luxury of the interior does not stop there; from the complimentary set of Orrefors crystal glasses to ambient lighting and elegant leather stitched seats, this is a game changer for Volvo.

Volvo did not mention any other specs during the official reveal. However, many have surmised based on emblems on the vehicle that the XC90 Excellence will be packing a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 318 horsepower, in addition to an electric motor. The combined output is 400 horsepower, enough to launch the SUV from 0 to 62 MPH in just under six seconds.

No pricing detail were revealed. However, Volvo did say the car will launch globally sometime in 2015.
