As the series is a bit of homage to Napoléon Bonaparte, you might think that writing instrument designer and manufacturer Montblanc’s newest suitjacket accessories should appeal to the hostile takeover set. But Montblanc’s approach to artisanal representation of le petit caporal focuses on his artistic eye, and his appreciation of neoclassicism, as readily as it expresses the grandiose military muster associated with him.

The pens are decorated with motifs and colors associated with French history, including the bee symbol which the Emperor used, with historical irony, to connect himself to France’s ancient royal line; the era’s artistic fashions are represented in the Egyptian palm pattern. The distinctive portrait of a hatted Bonaparte decorates the sold gold nib of one, while the other features a cap ring that riffs on classical architectural forms.

Montblanc calls the more exclusive fountain model the Patron of Art Napoléon Bonaparte Limited Edition 888, and it is priced at €8,100; the second model has the same title, with the numerical designation 4810, and it priced at €2,900. A related notebook is priced at €75.
