Transcending the boundaries of time and space, the avant-garde watchmaker URWERK has crafted another impressive piece—the SpaceTime Blade. This sci-fi inspired time sculpture serves as a cosmic chronometer, translating the Earth’s voyage around the Sun into a hypnotic danse macabre of numbers.

Anchored regally atop a bronze base wrought by lost-wax sorcery, the Blade’s glass dome shields its delicate innards. Beneath this crystalline cocoon, eight flame-licked Nixie bulbs sway like reeds in the river of time. Hand-blown in the Czech Republic’s “Crystal Valley,” each glass tube cocoons a spider’s web of steel cathodes displaying the 0-9 numerals. When switched on, these filaments ignite in an amber glow, flickering out the seconds in a 500-times-per-second foxtrot.

This cybernetic obelisk also moonlights as a galactic odometer. Switching modes on its saber-esque remote cycles through various distance readouts. See the kilometers tick by as Earth pirouettes around the Sun daily and yearly.

“We continue to explore the relationship between time and space,” explains URWERK co-founder Felix Baumgartner. With the SpaceTime Blade, the avant-garde atelier has created an instrument of measure as cerebral as it is visually captivating. This fusion of horology and art forges a new dimension for timekeeping.
