The New York City flat owned by former Gotham mayor Rudy Giuliani is up for sale this summer. The co-op property reached the open market recently with an asking price of $6.5 million.

The half-floor west-facing unit is located on an upper floor of a prominent pre-WWI residential building in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Lenox Hill; the building is about a block from Central Park. A look at the interiors reveals a tasteful aggregate of dark-finished oak floors, neutral and warm neutral tones, and extraordinary period details that include leaded windows and candle sconces.

The milled moldings and ceilings, and abundant wood paneling, lend a formal warmth and historical relevance to the property that is striking. The dining room, in particular, is as evocative of the lingering gilded age splendor of this corner of New York as the building’s ornate exterior.

The kitchen’s design style is of course more contemporary, but fits into the whole very well, with dark grey stone tile floors and valences adding dimension to an otherwise literate-utilitarian vision. In the master bath, frosted block glass, blue marble and tile, and an antique pendant combine.

Specialty spaces in the unit include an entrance gallery, an entertainment room, and a library.
