NBA All-Star and current Chicago Bulls team member Zach LaVine invested $34 million in the South-of-L.A. lifestyle this year when he took possession of a larger estate in the Newport Beach area. The property appeared on the open market in the late winter; LaVine closed on it in April, according to public records.

Last sold about two years ago and heavily renovated in the interim, the Pelican Crest mansion has five beds and seven baths in its 9,648 sq. ft., two-level layout. It dates to 2007; updates include a brightening outside and in, with the shared spaces less dominated by dark wood. Mediterranean-style elements remain intact, and include a turret staircase with wall niches and ornamental windows.

The property was a turkey opportunity for LaVine. Indoor comforts include a billiards room with wine storage and bar, and a master with private fireplace terrace. The lot spans nearly an acre, and the home is surrounded by a number of appealing amenities, including a breakfast patio with a water feature, a zero-edge pool, and a putting green, all amid tropical garden landscaping.
