Back for a third model year in U.S. showrooms: the Alpina XB7. The 2023 iteration of the very refined SUV — it may be the classiest example of the body style currently extant globally — arrives with a number of upgrades over the X7, including a new hybrid powertrain.

The 2023 XB7’s power comes from a new, house-built 4.4L V8 biturbo; the mild-hybrid technology on board contributes to the model’s available 630 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed Sport Automatic Transmission with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC paddle-shifters delivers the energy. The new-generation XB7 can launch to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 180 (with Wheel and Performance Tire Package).

There’s a lot to an Alpina performance component package, but highlights of this particular model for 2023  include Alpina dampers and kinematics, BMW’s xDrive AWD system, custom-calibrated limited-slip differential, and an Alpina-specific engine management system and performance cooling system. Inside the cabin, BMW’s iDrive 8 Operating System is at work, along with a standard head-up system and a driver-assistance kit that includes Active Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional with Maneuver and Trailer Assistant features. Lavalina leather and myrtle wood trim enhance the interiors.

The 2023 Alpina XB7 base stickers at $145,995, with destination fee included. BMW will be accepting orders for it this month, with initial deliveries expected in the first months of next year.
