A cute-as-a-button contemporary Cape in Tarzana changed hands this winter, moving from Nick Lachey’s ownership to tennis star Naomi Osaka’s. The changing of hands — which was conducted to the tune of $6.3 million. Osaka’s no stranger to upscale properties around L.A.; back in 2019, she purchased a ponderous spec-built modern from Nick Jonas for a cool $6.9 million. The rule seems to be that if you’re a pop star named Nick, and you have a luxurious home on the market, Osaka will lob a money bag in your direction. Paging Nick Carter.

The incoming house is only seven years old; Lachey purchased the 7,000 square-footer in 2020, paying NFL star Randall Cobb $5.05 million for the keys. It’s framed in the kind of bucolic suburban landscaping which suggests it’s been a fixture on the street for decades. The architectural style helps too; a bright white contemporary Cape is invitingly familiar. It’s also amenities-rich, with a lounge that sports a full-sized bar, a generously-proportioned master and an outdoor recreation area with a pool and kitchen.

The interiors are thoroughgoing contemporary. Pocketing glass walls, a transition room with a fireplace, wide-plank hardwood, and grid lighting offset the more traditional elements of the living style, which include a coffered ceiling, built-in shelves, a farmhouse staircase, and a porch swing. The heart of the home is the seamless kitchen and family room, which factors in a fireplace and an indoor/outdoor breakfast space.

Osaka grew up in the U.S. but on the professional tennis circuit she represents Japan, her birth country. She’s won the US Open and the Australian Open twice each, and was formerly ranked No. 1 in the world.

Osaka’s marketability and appeal on and off the court quickly made her a darling of big-name sponsors, earning her steady eight-figure sums from endorsements. Nike, Nissan, Tag Heuer, and Louis Vuitton have all written checks.
