Actress Hilary Swank listed a splendid 1928-built villa in Pacific Palisades this autumn. The Million Dollar Baby Academy Award winner — she took home her second Best Actress golden statuette for her role in the celluloid heartbreaker — is asking $10.5 million for the expressive Mediterranean Revival, which sits on .36 acres of tree-bordered grounds. Swank has reportedly decided to move to Colorado.

The home’s exterior carries that curiosity-inducing accumulation of details peculiar to the style—various window shapes and series, loggias, a tile roof, graceful arches, balconies, a wood-clad bay extension—which merges with the architectural massing to create an illusion of space that belies this home’s 6,722 sq. ft.

Many of the home’s original details have survived the decades, and Swank’s ownership tenure — public records indicate she purchased it in 2007 — have been marked by more sensitive revisions that have allowed the inventive period style to remain dominant. Arched doors, stenciled beams, colorful tile staircase risers, and wrought-iron gates all pop up along the home’s travel-log of romantic 1920s cosmopolitanism. Creature comforts include a screening room; for potential creature discomfort, there is a gym.

Most appealing among the home’s shared spaces is the dining room, which features a built-in cushioned window bench upholstered in soft pea green below a bank of windows taking in fine views of the ocean and hills, and transitions to a covered outdoor breakfast room. Outside, a private pool area is the centerpiece of the property’s backyard; it is accompanied by a cabana, and there is a guest house on the estate. Supporting players include an outdoor kitchen, and fruit and vegetable gardens.
