Mercedes-Benz’s EQ reveal continues with an electrified version of the G-Class, the Concept EQG. The EV powertrain take on the classic—and, some would argue, prototypical—SUV is confined to renderings at the present time, but the images give an idea of what the coming EQG will look like when it arrives at dealerships in a few years.

Only recently, Mercedes unveiled its EQE EV sedan, the E-Series entry in the electric powertrain lineup of the automaker. Mercedes gave that model a first year of production—2023—but isn’t quite ready to be that specific about the arrival of the first batch of electric G-Class.

What they did reveal was a SUV with strongly expressed G-DNA that rides on 22-inch wheels. The renderings provided the concept with fantastical sci-fi-inspired backdrops that make the EQG look more fiction that fact, but Mercedes indicates that they’re close to a production version at present. Still and all, entertaining stuff; is it our imagination, or is there a Planet of Storms element to the imaginative landscape?

Other Mercedes EQ vehicles to check out during this exciting period of transition include the 2022 EQB SUV, 2022 EQS sedan, and the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53.
