Only weeks ago, former Arizona Diamondbacks player Justin Upton sold his desert contemporary in Paradise Valley to David Price for $9.5 million. But Upton, who began his stint with the Angels in 2018, had a purchase of his own in the works: this very recent build in Newport Beach.

The house closed at $4.727 million. It was completed just last year, measures 5,604 square feet, and contains five bedrooms and seven baths. The interiors offer a few unusual and effective details, most notably in the living room, where a Spanish-inspired feel dominates: a timber barrel ceiling adds warmth to the design, and a Spanish colonial chandelier and in-wall fireplace with a raised hearth additional complexity.

In the open-concept common area, claimed wood is used as both structural fundamental and aesthetic embellishment. The rustic feel continues through the kitchen receives plank floating shelves, whitewashed brick, and lava stone and butcher-block countertops.

Amenities include a theater, wet bar, and wine room. The outdoor living areas are perhaps most appealing of all: Kayu Batu decks, a fire feature, and a grill station add excellent fair-weather recreational potential to the property.
