Jodie Foster listed her 7,500 square-footer in Beverly Hills for sale this month. The actress and director is asking $15.9 million for the home, which is a sprawling traditional-style with five bedrooms and six baths.

The house dates to 1952, although extensive renovations carried out down the misty corridors of time have left it open and feeling quite contemporary. The double-height foyer looks right at home at the tail end of this decade, and is enhanced by the addition of a fashionable multi-pendant chandelier.

Wide-plank dark-finished floors throughout the interiors give the house a great deal of warmth and immediate familiarity, while the grey accenting that begins at the front door evokes a bit of history and suggests soothing and meditative while avoiding moodiness. The living style is nicely balanced, even harmonious.

The living room opens via three glass foldaway panels to become an indoor/outdoor living space. The kitchen is a beaut, with light and darker grey cabinetry and a vaulted ceiling, and it, too, opens broadly to an exterior living space: a brick patio with lovely views of the city and, distantly, the ocean.

The home’s lot extends to nearly two-thirds of an acre, with mature trees, gardens, and a nice swath of lawn. Landscaping is very private.

Actor/director Foster is occasionally also a producer. She helped bring last year’s ‘Be Natural’ to the silver screen; the documentary examines the life of filmmaker Alice Guy-Blanché.
