‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star Kyle Richards and husband Mauricio Umansky had an unfortunate holiday surprise: the couple’s home in Encino was burgled while they were away in the days following Christmas. TMZ reported that thieves apparently gained access to the home through a second story window, and managed to abscond with about a million dollars’ worth of jewelry and other valuables.

The couple purchased the home last fall, and had embarked on an ambitious renovation of the home, which was at one time the residence of R&B star and producer Smokey Robinson. Rumor has it that the crime may well have been executed by a perpetrator or perpetrators who knew the layout of the home, and had familiarity with the schedule of Richards and Umansky. Since little damage was done to the home, and the perpetrator or perpetrators appear to have concentrated their efforts on the master suite, the details seem to point in that direction. The security system was reportedly turned off to allow contractors to work on the home.

The thieves apparently confined themselves to the master bedroom nearly exclusively, with watches belonging to Umansky, and valued at about $150K, among the articles stolen. Other valuables lost in the burglary include a great deal of Richards’ jewelry, including a pair of earrings worth an estimated $100K.

Richards and Umansky were in Aspen for the holidays at the time the crime occurred.
