A striking contemporary home once owned by film director Michael Bay recently sold, fetching a whopping $41 million. Bay sold the home in 2014 for $11.45 million, and its new owners expanded the house dramatically, nearly doubling its living space, in the course of a radical revision and renovation which transformed the 1970’s modern statement into a flashy meditation on the residential architectural zeitgeist of upscale L.A. Which means it’s a house that elicits the same emotional response as a Michael Mann crime drama.

The home had been listed with an asking price of $45 million prior to the sale. Bay purchased the place in 1999, paying a little more than $5 million.

Now sizing up at 15,000 square feet, with five bedrooms and nine baths throughout, the two-story home has the unmistakable look of an ultra-contemporary luxury home, with a white execution, a huge amount of glass—much of it retractable—abundant covered exterior living space and interior/exterior flow, and a prominent pool and sunlounge.

The home’s sprawling layout includes a comprehensive home spa: a gym, a dry sauna, and a steam room are incorporated in the wellness suite. The house also features a home theater, a wine room, and a massive master suite. But lost in the shuffle, of course, is the charm of the original.

Michael Bay’s most recent visual extravaganza is this year’s ‘Transformers: The Last Knight.’ The film grossed over $600 million at the box office.
