Musician Adam Levine has quietly picked up an estate in Holmby Hills. The lead singer of pop-rock outfit Maroon 5 dropped $18 million on the property, which had been listed prior to the sale at a shadow under $20 million.

The home dates to 1966. A French-style villa, the home is preoccupied with entrances: a long, gated drive, and a gated entryway which passes through a landscaped interior portal to the home’s foyer.

The foyer’s black-and-white tile and chandelier set the early 19^th century tone of the house, but the postmodern composition brings in modern window styles and Mediterranean influences as well. Room-to-room transitions are accomplished through grand doorways. Ceilings employ tray or coffering effects. The chandelier in the living room is the home’s central statement, a massive ornament which draws the eye, while built-ins provide a little comfortable charm.

Baths have been revised to the current fashion, with plenty of marble throughout, but the kitchen is a little behind the times, with cabinetry which sings clearly of the early 1990’s, a dramatic ceiling pocket, and a somewhat starkly bland execution overall.

The home’s consolations are in natural light, and interior/exterior flow. The dayroom is a solarium style alcove, and features glass doors which open to the patio. The adjacent formal dining room follows suit, with a larger set of sliding glass doors, and a third chandelier.

The property’s 9,200 square feet of interior living space includes a small guest house which features an open-trussed, raw wood ceiling. There are five bedrooms and 5.5 baths between the two residences.

The lot is a fairly generous one for the area, and extends to 1.2 acres bordering the L.A. Country Club course. With a small pool, plentiful lounging space, a cabana, and tropical gardens, the property exterior is fundamental to the architectural design.

Levine is currently at work as a coach on ‘The Voice’; his acting credits include this year’s ‘Fun Mom Dinner.’ Maroon 5 continues to record and tour. The band is currently at work on their next studio release.
