Life on Mars may be one step closer than it appears. MAD founder Ma Yansong has debuted a line of sci-fi inspired furniture.

The new collection was designed for use on Mars, and while colonization of the red planet and the correlative Martian real-estate market might be only on the distant horizon, the new items will look fetching in any earthly abode.

Created for Gallery All in Beijing, the MAD Martian line includes a chaise lounge chair, dining table, floor-to-ceiling lights, console table, and a candlestick. The gold candelabras are ultra futuristic while suspension lights take inspiration from the 1960s Space Race.

Mystical and futuristic, Yansong used 20th-century science fiction to come up with the collection’s aesthetic. The pieces are crafted from bronze, aluminum, and stainless steel with fluid mountainous shapes. “I want to bring to Mars the Earth landscape, as I imagined it in my room as a child,” said Yansong.

The innovative and avant-garde collection was recently on display at Design Miami/Basel.
