Someone must’ve hipped the Sun Ra fan club, and the Fox Mulder Foundation, too.

Each variation of the MB&F Horological Machine No. 6, known as “Alien Nation,” stands as the brand’s newest performance art timepiece. MB&F recently launched the four limited-edition watches, and on the day they were made available, all four timepieces were already sold out. Far out.

Based on the design of the HM6 SV, the timepiece comes in four variations with each featuring miniature aliens set on the movement. Those tiny extraterrestrials are all hand carved from gold and are on display thanks to a sapphire crystal face. Olivier Kuhn is responsible for the sculpting of the unique figurines. Blue glowing material known as AGT is also used as a luminant around the case of the Alien Nation timepieces, adding the requisite, spooky atmospherics.

The six tiny aliens are arranged to appear as if they might be directing the mechanisms, or operating a spacecraft. This unique concept fits in line with MB&F’s brand signature, since most of their watches are designed to suggest some kind of vehicle or vessel.

Beyond its striking theme, the internal workings of the watch are also impressive: an automatic movement with a flying tourbillon. All in all, the mechanism is crafted from 496 parts.

MB&F’s quirky timepieces are water-resistant up to 98 feet and carry a price tag of $500,000.
