Thomas Tull, the businessman who entered the film business by founding juggernaut production company Legendary Pictures, has dropped the price on his penthouse in Pittsburgh. The producer of the critical and financial smash hit ‘Dark Knight’ films had initially listed the property with an asking price of $14 million, but has diminished his expectations somewhat, and is now asking $11 million for the residence.

The home is a combination of several units; Tull acquired the components over the course of a little less than two years, and had the three-floor residence custom-built. The resulting property measures a little less than 13,000 square feet, and contains a whopping seven bedrooms and eleven baths.

The interior of the home is an amalgam of golden-age pretensions and contemporary flourishes. Floors are strikingly inlaid oak, and are quite lovely. Ceilings and light fixtures occasionally tend to the heavy-handed; lots of gilt and crystal. But the scale of the place is impressive, and the glass walls take in spectacular views of the Steel City.

The master bedroom is very heavily ornamented. It’s toned in yellows, with a huge padded headboard, baroque-accented ceiling with chandelier, and heavy drapes, and comes off as very ponderous. The kitchen, on the other hand, is fairly simple and contemporary, and may be the more charming room in the house; although the central, winding staircase is the heart of the residence.

Thomas Tull’s self-made career is the stuff of the American Dream. When his investment company entered the entertainment industry, Tull learned the business, and launched Legendary Pictures in 2005. His latest production is ‘Kong: Skull Island’, is in theaters now.
