Neil Patrick Harris has purchased an estate in the Hamptons for $5.5 million. The home was initially listed in 2014 for $7.49 million, and has literary associations: it was, at one time, the home of Grove Press owner Barney Rosset, who fought to publish the unbowdlerized version of Lady Chatterley’s Lover. It was also, interestingly, the site of the Killing Kittens Hamptons debut party written up in Harper’s Bazaar last spring. But the party wasn’t nearly as stimulating, judging by the Harper’s story, as the D.H. Lawrence novel.

Measuring about 5,500 square feet, the classic shingle-style main residence was completed in 2001, and contains four bedrooms, each with an en-suite bath. It has a modern renovated barn attached, which features the huge spaces and abundant light one expects, as well as a few surprises, such as a rooftop deck with spa.

The execution of the home is tasteful—materials are pleasingly luxurious, but not overblown. Limestone floors, cherry and ash, and plaster walls—a nice touch that says, in the 21st century, that expense was not spared. Four fireplaces provide the home with the warmth and ambience one desires in a coastal retreat in the Northeastern U.S., and the house contains a library and wine cellar. Additionally, there is a screened porch, and a pool and pool house for Hampton’s summer living.

The property’s exterior measures over thirteen acres, a sizeable parcel that affords a great deal of privacy and seclusion to the new owners.

Neil Harris currently stars as Olaf in the Neflix adaptation of the children’s book series ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events.’ He is also active in numerous charitable organizations, including Global Green, Feeding America and Children International.
