Urwerk has added to its EMC watch family with the new EMC Time Hunter X-Ray, so named for the skeletonized dial that creates a glimpse into the exhilarating mechanics of the timepiece.

The previous EMC (Electro Mechanical Control) watches from the Geneva-based Swiss brand were manual movements with a hand crank. Well, the hand crank is still there, and the movement is still manual, but there is now an electronic capacitor that is charged by the hand crank that serves as a power injector into the mechanics of the watch.

There is a power-level indicator at the 11 o’clock, and the crank is situated near the 3 o’clock with only a few spins needed to fully charge the capacitor.

This capacitor is pretty special. It is made from the same company that created the insanely detailed technology for the Mars rover and can be recharged between 100,000 and 200,000 times thanks to an 80-hour power reserve in the caliber.

The Calibre UR-EMC manual-winding movement is housed between a pair of sapphire crystals inside of a Grade 5 Titanium case. This case has been shot-peened for shaping, brushed, and then PVD-coated to create a sleek and spaceship-like outer surface that pairs nicely with the inner workings of the watch.

Urwerk is only making 15 of the EMC Time Hunter X-Rays, with each of the limited-edition timepieces earning a price tag of about $128,500.
