President Gerald Ford’s Vail Getaway on the Market for $13M

The property that once served as a Colorado holiday retreat for President and First Lady Ford entered the open market this month tagged at $13 million. The alpine getaway, which was completed in 1967, contains seven bedrooms and five baths across its 5,860 sq. ft. It sits on grounds that measure nearly half an acre.

The home’s interiors are rustic and cozy, as expected; the heart of the house is a great room with a raw timber, open-trussed cathedral ceiling and a large adobe fireplace with a raised hearth. Wide-plank hardwood floors and reclaimed plank accents are essential elements of the décor. It’s familiar stuff, but that’s what cozy is made of.

The landscape does the rest of the work, and the home’s extensive outdoor living areas make out-of-season trips to the area as splendid as ski jaunts: a wraparound deck overlooking the alpine drama and the property’s gardens, and an outdoor fireplace courtyard.
