Martha Stewart Sells Hamptons Home for $16.5M—Double Her Ask

Earlier this year, prototypical postmodern home fashion arbiter and advocate of all things cottagey sold her Hamptons getaway for $16.5 million. The 1973-built ‘summer cottage’ is a postcard-worthy picture of Hamptons in the green season, an eccentric old aunt of a home sporting weathered shingles and aquamarine trim that’s nestled in a frame of lush Northeaster flora. It had been listed at $8.4 million before being snapped up in an off-market deal, according to Dirt.

The home’s covering of ivy suggests it is both resident of its landscape and incorporated profoundly within it, and combined with the structure’s centenarian charm this intertwining of house and setting is unusually affecting. The property’s title, Lily Pond Lane house, is only slightly less charming.

The flooring that runs throughout the lower level made for an excellent foundation for Stewart’s revision of the home. In the kitchen and solarium dining room is a tile that picks up the shade of the exterior trim and is distantly echoed in the color of the ceiling; the narrow-plank hardwood in the rest of the shared space and upstairs as well is some of the prettiest anywhere, and given a glossy treatment that evokes its era. Exposed brick, French doors, and a striking mix of warm and cool tones complete a sketch of the house as it was when it changed hands.

Stewart’s current projects include HGTV’s Martha Knows Best. She also has a television special with Snoop Dogg that’s coming out soon: Snoop and Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween.
