German company Pelikan is honoring the 90th anniversary of its proprietary piston-fill system.
The Pelikan Herzstück 1929 fountain pen contains a lot of history. The original featured the first differential piston mechanism in the world. Prior to the advent of this system, writers relied on much more cumbersome filling systems, so Pelikan’s invention marked a major shift in fountain pen innovation.
Connoisseurs will also recognize the inclusion of familiar elements like a transparent ink window, and the pelican beak-style clip and cap logo. The new design comes complete with a specially engraved 18k solid gold medium nib.
The Pelikan Herzstück 1929 fountain pen is available to pre-order for $3,000, and is limited to just 462 examples. The limited-edition pen comes with a bottle of Royal Blue Pelikan ink.
