While some drivers cherish the quiet serenity of an electric vehicle, sometimes power and speed should be accompanied by a traditional IC soundtrack: engine and exhaust ambiance. That’s where Soundracer enters the picture.

Even though new luxury electric vehicles seem to hit the market every day, it doesn’t mean some people aren’t missing the roar of an old-fashioned gas engine. In the interests of nostalgia, what’s a driver to do? The Swedish company aims to solve this quandary with the introduction of its Electric Vehicle Electronic Engine Sound System (EVEESS).

Drivers who love the snappy power of the Tesla-type, but miss the rumble and roar of a gas engine, can add those sounds to their electric driving experience with the new tech. Soundracer’s sound-effects unit needs to be wired into an electric vehicle in order to replicate the pulsating pistons and pipes of a petrol ride.

The integrated setup is necessary in order for EVEESS to recognize the change in a vehicle’s speed, so it may replicate the sweet 20th-century sound. Drivers can customize their own sounds for a personalized driving experience. Without those foul accompanying exhaust fumes.

Those hoping to add roaring sound effects to their electric vehicles can get an EVEESS kit for around $300.
