Retired MLB player Mike Piazza has listed his Miami estate on the open market with an asking price of $18.5 million. The major-league catcher and power hitter has owned the waterfront property on Biscayne Bay since early 2008; he purchased it for about $10 million some months after retiring from professional playing.

Dating to 2001, the house is a faithful recreation of an Italian villa. The exterior of the home is boxy and imposing, with a good mix of window shapes, plentiful nooks and crannies, and landscaping that includes expertly manipulated flowering vines. Stone friezes, steps and balustrades help carry the home’s period aspirations.

Inside, the home is bright and open, with a good amount of room-to-room variation in style and mood. Cooler and warmer tones, and a variety of pattern motifs, give the home an eclectic feel. Space is paramount, and the greatroom features both a two-story height ceiling and a large fireplace for an exaggerated sense of scale that is quite pleasing.

Details include crown moldings, Jerusalem limestone floors, hardwood floors, and, in one of the home’s eight bedrooms, panoramic wallpaper. Amenities include a wet bar, a kitchen with center island, an entertainment room, and an office which looks somewhat Balinese in style.

The property exterior includes a pool and spa, as well as a deep water dock and boatlift along 100’ of frontage on Biscayne Bay.

Mike Piazza was a 12-time MLB All-Star. He spent eight seasons of his career with the Mets, helping the team along to the World Series in 2000.
