‘Broad City’ Co-Creator Abbi Jacobson Buys in L.A.’s Silver Lake Neighborhood for $1.6M

Abbi Jacobson recently picked up a home in Silver Lake, the Los Angeles neighborhood currently earmarked as the bohemian mecca in the city. Jacobson paid $1.59 million for the property.

The house is a mid-century two-story affair, a glassy box with an unremarkable façade defined by garage doors, a second-floor balcony with a strictly utilitarian balustrade, and a vague bit of Japanese architectural influence.

The home opens up very pleasantly within. The 2,032 square-feet of living space features common living spaces with excellent room-to-room flow, a bright and open kitchen and dayroom, and the stacked-stone fireplace familiar to the period which acts as both an overt indication of comfort and a centerpiece to the living and family rooms. Plank hardwood floors, unassuming period pendant light fixtures, the occasional exposed beam, a bit of tongue-in-groove, sliding glass doors, and at least one louvered window are all design elements of the eccentrically cool interiors.

The defining characteristic of the house, though, may be the covered terrace, which uses high-gloss wood punctuated with a large skylight for a nifty liberating effect, and is the property’s most acute representation of the Japanese ideal of indoor/outdoor interplay. Silver Lake through and through: lots of effortless character, without a hint of premeditation.

Jacobson and Ilana Glazer took ‘Broad City’ from web series to Comedy Central hit. Jacobson’s guest appearances include two episodes of the IFC sketch comedy hit ‘Portlandia.’
