While a number of vehicles made their debut at this year’s Frankfurt auto show, Mini‘s new concept made quite the impression.

The Mini John Cooper Works GP Concept vehicle boasts the GP designation that hasn’t been utilized by the brand since 2012, and its unique design is certainly pushing the envelope.

The impressive concept presents an upgraded look to the traditionally cute car with a number of race-inspired features like a big rear wing and red accents on gray metallic paint. The outlandish bodywork is a rare move for the automaker, but the result is a more aggressive Mini that looks ready for the track.

Onlookers will certainly be surprised to see features like rain lights and giant intake vents, which are elements typically reserved for Formula 1 race cars. The interior is race-worthy as well thanks to a missing rear seat, a full roll cage, and leather and cloth interior upholstery.

While Mini hasn’t announced any plans to put the concept into production, the special debut really shows off what the automaker can do.
