Rooney Mara has listed her home in Los Angeles. The actor is asking $3.8 million for the Los Feliz property, which she purchased in 2015 for $2.9 million.

The house dates to the early 1960’s, and is designed in the modern style. It measures a little less than 2,350 square feet, and contains two bedrooms and 1.5 baths.

The house has been restored, but respectfully, and the high-modern flourishes remain. Exposed steel beams, a corner fireplace in an accent partition, and an absolutely liberated sense of space give the interior a historic look that is still very relevant. A great deal of glass, plentiful access and reference to the exterior, a lack of distracting or cluttering ornament, and whitewash inside and out. Fundamental stuff.

The kitchen features stainless countertops, which is a refreshing change from the ubiquitous stone we’ve become accustomed to. Stainless steel may be a little chilly, a little clinical for countertops in the context of other home designs, but here it fits well.

The floors of the home are terrazzo—again, fundamental—and ceiling design is plain, and planar. The simple approach extends to bedrooms and baths; restoration of the latter has left them with the spirit of the period.

The home’s exterior incorporates a nicely proportioned second floor deck. The dayroom with built-in seating which looks out over the deck, and takes in the city views, may be the charmer of the house.

Rooney Mara’s lead role in 2011’s ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ garnered the actor an Oscar nomination. Her role as Therese in 2015’s ‘Carol’ was universally acclaimed.
