Late producer Sandy Gallin’s estate in the Hamptons, which has been on the market for several years, now has an asking price of $22.5 million. The legendary manager purchased the property in 2011, for $5.1 million, and conducted an extensive renovation, transforming it into a classic overgrown East Hampton shingle style cottage in a process that represented a year of work, and a considerable financial investment. The home had been listed initially with an ask of $24.5 million.

The time and money was well spent. Even without the artful, still-life with lilac blossom property photo shoot, the house and grounds have the idyllic, timeless atmosphere of the Hamptons. The residence is suitably weather-beaten, for a charming sense of collapsed time. The original structure dated to the 1920’s.

The main residence measures about 6,500 square feet, and contains seven bedrooms, nine baths, and two half baths. Interiors are appealingly simple, with hardwood finishes contrasting with whitewash, exposed beam or coffered ceilings, and period-style lighting. The kitchen is farmhouse style, functional but not overblown, with a good dose of stainless, as expected.

The property extends to 2.11 acres, and incorporates four outbuildings, one of which is a guest house. A pool house and garage are also on the property. An apple orchard is incorporated into the landscaping, which evokes the idea of retreat very well.

Sandy Gallin’s clients included Richard Pryor, Barbra Streisand and Michael Jackson. He produced films, television series, and theatrical runs on Broadway, including the ‘Father of the Bride’ films, and Fox’s ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’
