Meg Ryan’s Immaculately Appointed Soho Loft Is a Steal at $10.9M

Actor Meg Ryan has listed her Soho loft. The property was featured in an article in Architectural Digest last October; the timing of the listing could not be much better. Ryan has priced the property at $10.9 million. She paid $8 million for it a little more than two years ago, when she purchased it from actor and comedian Hank Azaria. In the meantime, she’s renovated it extensively. It is the latest of nine homes the hobbyist designer has revised.

The revision is dramatic, but playful: black and white predominate, but are balanced with playful visual elements like the inset bench that stretches along the gallery, and the integration of visible plumbing to the overall aesthetic. The glass of numerous French doors and transom windows gives the home an invitational quality, and plenty of illumination, while the black finish adds a brooding component to all the optimism. Light fixtures are industrial-mannered, or self-consciously antique, and marble and subway tile add necessary texture to kitchen and baths. The effect isn’t stark, it’s a right-brained take on utilitarian hip, with a continuous sense of flow into and out of the home’s center: the living room. Again, dramatic, but easygoing, too.

The home measures 4,100 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and three baths. Windows are period-oversized. Flashy amenities are wisely sacrificed in favor of urbane wit; the home’s one exception is a media room, which is not a surprising indulgence for the actor and cinephile.

Meg Ryan made her directorial debut in her last film: 2015’s ‘Ithaca,’ based on a novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer William Saroyan.  Her next renovation is currently in pre-production.
