‘Lords of Flatbush’ Director Martin Davidson Puts Hollywood Hills Home on the Market for $3M

Martin and Sandy Davidson have listed their longtime Hollywood Hills home for $2.995 million. The modestly sized house, located at the end of a cul-de-sac, has been the couple’s home since 1975.

The house was constructed in 1940, and entirely renovated by Sandy Davidson. Deco flourishes—such as graduated beams and sconces, rounded terrace, and the decorative planes of the fireplace mantle—are joined with corner windows, and the whitewashed, angular, open-concept living area. As it stands, walls in warm neutral tones and plenty of original hardwood offer plenty of prewar California charm to the interior. Inset bookcases and office desk, and inlaid floors continue the trend.

In keeping with Davidson’s interest in Asian design elements, the dining room is Eastern-influenced, and contains a vaulted skylit ceiling shaded with rattan. It finishes heavily, with a brick floor, and the hardwood floor leading into the room—as well as the matching light fixture—echoes the deco theme nicely, for an appealing stylistic amalgam.

Only measuring in at 1,376 square feet, the home contains a master suite and an additional bath. The master bath places the tub in a solarium which looks out onto the property; white tile is judiciously accented with crimson. The bedroom’s wall of inset bookcases is one of the most appealing features of the home.

Martin Davidson’s films include coming-of-age period piece ‘The Lords of Flatbush’ (1974), and the meditative rock-and-roll mystery ‘Eddie and the Cruisers’ (1983), which yielded a hit soundtrack.
