Ivanka Trump Buys DC Colonial for $5.5M

After recently selling a smaller Park Ave condominium for $4.1M, Ivanka Trump is moving to a large Colonial style house in D.C.’s Kalorama neighborhood, located in Massachusetts Avenue Heights. The home sold a few days before Christmas, reportedly for $5.5 million. Although it is not certain if Trump and husband Jared Kushner purchased it or are leasing, the New York apartment sale makes the possibility of an outright purchase very likely.

The house’s façade is classically Colonial—understated and formal, historic, and preoccupied with symmetry—although the interior has been designed as cool, modern, and somewhat bleakly, stoically tasteful. The kitchen, for example, contains more than a bit of Danish influence about it, with starkly functional cabinetry and island, and an absence of ornament. Recessed lighting complements the spare pragmatism.

The Scandinavian influence continues throughout the house, lending a stark authenticity to the interior that contrasts somewhat jarringly with the home’s façade; the effect is not frisson, but a sensation a bit less enjoyably distracting, as if two contradictory styles had come together to form an empty paradox. Living room, sunroom, and master suite all follow suit, with dashes of tile and dark marble lending a little gravity. Light fixtures, and the glass-enclosed pale hardwood, open staircase add to the overall feel.

The 6,870 square foot house contains six bedrooms and 6.5 baths, including the master. The exterior of the home features a terrace and second-floor master balcony.

Ivanka Trump, a former model, holds a degree in economics from Penn’s Wharton School, works for her father’s company, and has launched her own fashion line. Her husband, Jared Kushner, is a real estate developer.
