A stunning residence on the National Register of Historic Places overlooking the Verdigris River Valley in Oklahoma has come up for sale. The impressive residence once housed famous guests such as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Once known as the Verdigris Club, and now dubbed the Skelly Lodge, the property located about 30 minutes from Tulsa was originally the private hunting ranch and getaway of Oklahoma’s elite oil barons William G. Skelly, Waite Phillips, and Walter Heimerich.

The current owners took over the Skelly Lodge and after renovations and upgrades turned the property into a full-service lodge and wedding and events venue. There is also a two-bedroom, 1,200-square-foot cabin that was built to model the existing lodge as closely as possible found on the property.

However, that doesn’t mean the fully furnished 9-bedroom, 5-bathroom main house can’t still be used as a private home.

The Skelly Lodge is listed for $2.5 million and comes with everything, including the event equipment.

“We’re hoping someone will want to continue the wedding venue,” current owner Harvey Sweet said. “I don’t know why they wouldn’ since it helps pay the bills.”
