Black-Eyed Peas’ Taboo Sells Altadena Cal-Med Home Above Asking

Black Eyed Peas member Taboo had this home listed for about a week before he saw an offer. Papers passed hands for $2.175 million, $50K above listing, although Taboo bought the house in 2007 for $2.2 million.

A nineteen forties California Mediterranean-style, the house measures 4,555 square feet, with five bedrooms and 5.75 baths.

From without, the house looks a little clumsy; a bit too modern for a med, and scant on glass. Angles are abrupt, and the design looks stilted. It doesn’t suggest much in the way of grace.

The interior, though, is thoroughgoing 1940’s California. A substantial double-door entry leads to a pleasantly open foyer of dark hardwood, staircase, and sitting room. A tiled fireplace opens into sitting room and kitchen. The coffered ceiling gives the place a little history, and the home’s nicer elements are directly linked to its vintage. Bathroom tiling appears, in one case, to be largely original, and a vaulted ceiling in the family room (as well as a pair of French doors leading to a large patio) liberates with a bit of space and light.

Elsewhere, bath updating is stylistically hit-or-miss, but the kitchen is tastefully updated, with requisite granite installed. One of the bedrooms was converted into a recording studio. Other features include office, large walk-in closet and dressing room, and a terrace for the master suite.

Taboo—real name Jaime Gomez—is a singer and multi-instrumentalist. He joined the Peas in 1995, contributing to their substantial commercial success. He took a role in the 2007 indie ‘Cosmic Radio,’ acting alongside the inimitable Wes Studi.
