Tesla Makes Insurance Easy With New InsureMyTesla Program

Tesla Makes Insurance Easy With New InsureMyTesla Program

Because automobile insurance companies seem to have trouble insuring Tesla’s electric vehicles, the American company has come up with a new program for owners called InsureMyTesla.

The new program ensures that owners aren’t overpaying for coverage—or not carrying enough—on their policies because of misunderstandings concerning the upgradeable models.

InsureMyTesla is currently only offered in Hong Kong and Australia, with bigger insurance agencies underwriting the InsureMyTesla policies. Tesla has joined up with AXA General Insurance in Hong Kong and QBE Insurance down under to serve as the underwriters for the specialized insurance plans.

Too often, Tesla owners are paying more for souped-up models than appropriate and end up over-insuring. On the flipside, some haven’t been paying for enough coverage, leaving them hanging when the need arose because of a lack of understanding of each variant of the popular electric cars at insurance companies.

The InsureMyTesla program is also unique in that it offers coverage for damage to Tesla Home Wall connectors, the ability to choose any Tesla authorized repair shop, and, if a Tesla is ruled to be a total loss and is less than three years (36 months) old, insured owners are covered to receive a completely new version of the same model and series.

The price point isn’t bad for Tesla’s insurance either, with Australian participants in the InsureMyTesla program being offered plans that begin at just $900 per year.
