Ever since the LaFerrari hybrid supercar was unveiled at 2013’s Geneva Auto Show, rumors have flown around about a convertible version. Enter Ferrari’s LaFerrari Spider, the first ever drop-top LaFerrari. This week on Twitter, the Italian sports car manufacturer showed the first three pictures of what will be one of the most powerful—and rarest—convertibles in the world.

Technical specifications are emerging slowly, but Ferrari says it will keep the original’s engine—a 949 horsepower behemoth combining a 6.3-liter V12 with a 120 kW electric motor.

They also claim that modifications to the chassis aerodynamics will offset performance losses typically associated with convertible tops. The original version features a 2.4 second 0-60 time and top speeds of 217 mph.

When Ferrari showed the convertible to potential buyers at a private event earlier this year, the reaction was so positive that the entire run—estimated to be between 150 and 200 examples—sold out almost immediately. If you’re itching to get your own, you’ll have to wait for the next model or wait for one to pop up on the used car market in a few years.

At around $1.4 million for this gem, you’ll want to start planning that purchase now, and whether you prefer a hard roof or a soft one, the LaFerrari’s got you covered with carbon fiber and soft top options.
