Ricoh has announced the successor to the WG-M1 camera, the WG-M2, with a list of improvements and design changes.

The WG-M2 places an emphasis on video recording, and the new camera can shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second, Full HD 1080p at 60 fps, and 720p at 120 fps. This is a major upgrade seeing as the WG-M1 could only shoot 1080p at 30 fps. The downside is that the WG-M2 can only shoot still frames at eight megapixels, down from the 14 its predecessor could produce.

Ricoh has kept the 1.5-inch LCD screen on the back of the camera for playback, a rarity for action cams, and it also features a Wi-Fi remote for operation or uploads to a smartphone or tablet.

The WG-M2 also is a little more durable than the M1 model and is now water resistant at up to 65 feet, shock resistant from 6.5 feet, and is freeze-proof as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit, all without a special housing like most other action cams need.

Ricoh will land the WG-M2 in stores in April for $300.
