BMW’s motorcycle division Motorrad has unveiled an experimental helmet, and it’s as advanced and high-tech as expected.

The new helmet features advanced technology like a head-up display and projects critical information about a driver’s surroundings. The information is projected onto a transparent panel that’s located in the driver’s field of vision.

Although it may seem like a creation out of science-fiction novels, BMW believes the new helmet will significantly increase motorcycle safety since riders can receive critical information without taking their eyes off the road.

Drivers easily access controls on the handlebar to display information like speed and current gear engaged, in addition to information like tire pressure, traffic warnings, and navigation directions.

BMW Motorrad is hoping to launch a helmet with an integrated head-up display in the next couple of years.
