Seven McLaren P1 GTR owners were recently able to put the iconic brand’s most powerful car through its paces at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the first stop of the McLaren P1 GTR Driver Program.

The program is a three-day event and racing-intensive experience that is designed to give owners a chance to learn how to handle the 986-horsepower, track-only P1 GTR.

Before hopping onto the track, every driver spent time with McLaren motorsport professionals to receive specialized coaching, with beginners even logging time in a McLaren simulator before getting behind the wheel of the real thing. Once the drivers in the program were schooled, they had a chance to race the same circuit that hosts the Spanish Grand Prix.

The McLaren P1 GTR Driver Program has eight more stops, including ones at Circuit of the Americas in the United States and Silverstone in the United Kingdom. Only owners of the 375 street-legal McLaren P1’s are given the chance to purchase the P1 GTR and participate in the program. Together the supercar and the program cost around $3.1 million.
