Although it may not seem like the Apple Watch is quite as popular as the iPhone or iPad, recent reports show that the tech brand holds nearly 50 percent of the smart watch market. It comes as no surprise then that AliveCor has created an incredible new band for the popular accessory.

Apple Watch bands come in a variety of materials and range from relatively inexpensive to ultra-pricey. However, now AliveCor has created a new band that goes beyond fashion to functionality with a band made to measure your heart’s electrical activity.

That’s right, the company’s new medical-grade Kardia band has been marketed as the first of its kind and might even be able to detect a stroke. The new band works with the Kardia Watch app to conduct an EKG reading thanks to a sensor on the watch strap.

The Kardia band will be available this spring. Pricing isn’t available yet but this new technology could very well save lives, and that’s no trivial matter.
