Hockey sharpshooter Wayne Gretzky has sold this Thousand Oaks home for $6 million. The property had been on the market since 2014, and had been initially listed with an asking price of $10.5 million. Gretzky and his wife purchased the house in 2009 for $2.765 million, and conducted extensive interior and exterior renovations.

Measuring 8,711 square feet, the main residence contains five bedrooms and 6.5 baths; the design is quite formal, with neoclassical elements, and sandstone and marble accents. Much of the interior is fairly dramatically toned, with sudden shifts from very bright to very, very dark.

Pale hardwood lends a little reflected light to a largely twilit bar; with a dark coffered carved ceiling, crystal chandelier, black textured walls, and black marble neoclassical fireplace, the room is extremely formal.

Elsewhere, recessed ceilings with crown moldings continue the trend, and a kitchen with liberal use of marble. The master bedroom features a limestone fireplace, and there is a sauna in the master bathroom.

The property exterior includes a pool house/guest house with a fitness room/home gym, poolside lounge area, and an exterior dining room with kitchen, grill and outside fireplace. Verandas in the back of the home open to the carefully landscaped grounds, which feature a large black trellis, entertainment and recreation areas, and the pool, which was installed by the Gretzkys.

Wayne Gretzky is widely considered to be the greatest hockey player in the history of the professional sport. He still holds a staggering 60 NHL records, with 3,239 points scored or assisted career-wide, and fifty regular season hat tricks.
