The cobblestone-covered, Adirondack-style lodge of world famous interior designer Hutton Wilkinson recently hit the market for the third time in the last decade, this time at a heavily reduced rate of $3.995 million. It was listed in 2009 for $6.025 million, dropping to $5.25 million the next March and made it back to the market for $4.8 million as recently as last year.

Wilkinson purchased the 39-acre property in the Santa Monica Mountains outside of Malibu from his mentor, the equally maximalist interior and film set designer Tony Duquette.

The rustic cabin has a large formal living room with ceiling height windows, an oversized glass chandelier and a fireplace, while a wood-lined library includes dramatic red walls and a vaulted ceiling. Faux bone cabinets, track lighting and exposed beams surround the stainless steel kitchen appliances, while a life-sized deer statue juts from the kitchen’s large center island.

The master bedroom features wood-framed French doors covered, as most of the house’s windows are, by Roman shades, a sitting area and an opalescent headboard.

The property also includes two separate guesthouses totaling three guest bedrooms and three baths. An Asian statue-lined walk, a free-form swimming pool with waterfall feature, a viewing pavilion, a lighted tennis court and a grilling station make the outdoor areas an excellent choice for entertaining.

Other one-of-a-kind features include a series of Buddhist-inspired spires, lushly detailed wallpapers and murals, hand-carved wooden wall adornments and a veritable cornucopia of exotic foliage

Wilkinson and his wife Ruth also own a compound above Beverly Hills.
