At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, BMW shared its vision for the future of in-vehicle technology. The German automaker’s new BMW Panoramic iDrive system aims to revolutionize the driving experience through an innovative display and user interface concept.
Slated to debut in BMW’s forthcoming Neue Klasse models starting at the end of 2025, Panoramic iDrive incorporates four key elements—the BMW Head-Up Display, central touch display, multifunction steering wheel, and BMW’s Operating System X software. Together, these components provide an immersive, customizable and intuitive system focused on driver safety and convenience.
The system’s crown jewel, BMW Panoramic Vision, utilizes projection technology to reflect driving information and navigation cues across the width of the windshield. Content is prioritized to appear directly in the driver’s sightline. Passengers can also personalize widgets displayed in the Panoramic Vision through the central touchscreen.
This touch display, now closer to the steering wheel for ergonomic access, enables control of menus and vehicle functions. The multifunction steering wheel provides haptic feedback for core controls like phone, media and voice assistance.
Underpinning it all is BMW’s new Operating System X—an evolution of their current software with expanded capabilities for upgrades and third-party app integration. Machine learning allows the system to proactively provide suggestions based on driver behavior.
With its emphasis on driver focus, personalization and seamless integration, BMW’s Panoramic iDrive aims to enhance the human-machine connection for the next generation of BMW owners.
