BMW has unveiled the seventh-generation of the M5, the high-performance sedan that has set the benchmark for power and handling in its class for over 30 years. The 2025 M5 debuts BMW’s new M Hybrid drive system, combining a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 with an electric motor for a total output of 717 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, rocketing the M5 from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.
The new drivetrain builds on the legacy of the M5 as the ultimate driving machine, while adding an electric boost. BMW states the M Hybrid system is inspired by its motorsports program, with learnings from the M Hybrid V8 racing car incorporated into the road car. The electric motor is integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission for a compact, lightweight package. It can provide an extra 194 hp and 207 lb-ft of instant torque to amplify the V8’s 577 hp and 553 lb-ft.
The M5 has pushed the limits of performance sedans since its debut in 1984. The 2025 model continues that tradition with the most power of any M5 yet, while also adding the capability for local emission-free driving for short distances. BMW estimates 25 miles of EV range is possible.
Beyond the powertrain, the new M5 gets a full makeover with a completely redesigned body and interior. Flared fenders, large air intakes, and quad exhaust pipes announce the M5’s sporting intentions. Inside is a new curved digital dashboard with M-specific graphics and displays. Luxury and technology are also enhanced with standard features like a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, ambient lighting, and the latest iDrive 8 infotainment.
The seventh-generation 2025 BMW M5 brings the iconic sports sedan into a new era, setting the pace once again for power, technology, and driving performance. Deliveries to U.S. customers will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, with pricing starting at $119,500.
