Adventurous Swiss watch and clock maker Urwerk has a new model to confound the traditionalists and pique the curiosity of the stylemakers. The wristwear model is called the UR-120 Space Black.

A look at its face reveals the company’s familiar tripartite mechanical structure for its wandering hours and the minute scale relegated to a margin, with bright splashes of color appearing starlike against a tonal foundation of colorlessness. Underneath is Urwerk’s in-house UR-20.01 calibre, with mechanical power provided by the firm’s in-house Windfänger design.

The UR 120 Space Black’s case is titanium and stainless, but the watch is finished in a DLC — that’s ‘diamond-like carbon’ for the uninitiated — for a matte finish that’s as near to a void as a seasoned astrophysicist could desire. The strap is a combination of calf leather below and hard-wearing Cordura nylon above, an ideal design for a fashionable watch that’s built for action.

The UR-120 Space Black is water resistant to 30 meters. It is priced at about $122K at the current rate of exchange.
