Audi’s newest e-tron GT strikes out in new territory, marketing-wise. The limited-production RS e-tron GT variation goes for a look that has, until now, remained an untapped source of sales floor cachet: the signature R&D camo that automakers use to both disguise and distinguish their upcoming models. It’s named accordingly: project_513/2, the handle given to it during the testing phase.

At its heart, the RS e-tron GT project_513/2 is Audi’s top-tier fully-electric sports car. The RS e-tron GT’s native power rating — 637 horses thrum quietly out of its boosted electric powertrain — and 232-mile range remain intact; it can, like its more conventionally-dressed sibling, make the 0-60 leap in 3.1 seconds with the boost playing along. Onboard tech includes Audi’s 360-degree top-view camera system and a 12.3-inch HD display with special GT visuals, while performance features include e-torque vectoring plus AWD and that distinctive electric rear spoiler.

The test-camo wrap of the project_513/2 recalls the e-tron GT prototype, and is enhanced by special badging — etched quarter panel glass — and bright red accents that stand out in relief against the overwhelmingly black-and-grey color scheme. The 75-example run will run you a premium price, of course. The current RS e-tron GT starts at $144k; the RS e-tron GT project_513/2 is base-stickered at $180,495, with a destination charge of $1,495 bringing the total entry cost to $181,990.
