Last winter, actor Alec Baldwin made a purchase in the Northeast, picking up a Colonial farmhouse in Vermont that dates to the late 18th century. The transaction plucked $1.75 million from Baldwin’s wallet, and gave him a quiet spot far from the madding crowd to regroup and spend time with family. Anyone who knows Vermont in the summertime will assume that Baldwin et al recharged sufficiently this season.
Listings nearer to the hurly-burly were expected to follow, of course. Although presumably not retreating permanently, it seemed likely that Baldwin & co would shuck an extraneous property or holiday haunt or two further south and/or on the West Coast, and to close out September the Emmy Award-winning actor has indeed put a getaway estate up for sale.
The listing represents a substantial change for Baldwin. According to public records, the actor closed on the 18th-century house in the early spring of 1996, and set about restoring it — and expanding it to taste. The home is in the Hamptons; it sits on 10 acres of land, and appears with an asking price of $29 million. Information about its interior details is scant, but it likely contains four bedrooms, and five full baths and three partials, across about 10,000 sq. ft.
The property is situated in a particularly rural corner of the Hamptons, and features a sweeping carpet of tree-dotted lawn amid the forest and farmland of the Amagansett landscape. The cedar shingle-clad house features a wood-paneled library, a theater, a wine tasting room, and a kitchen that’s large enough for catering but quite cozy. The outdoor living area is designed around a pavilion with a fieldstone fireplace as a centerpiece; a Gunite pool and vegetable garden are additional highlights of the greater estate, while interior living areas transition outside via an array of covered porches and balconies.
Baldwin’s upcoming film projects include Supercell, with Anne Heche in her final role. He’s also slated to star in 97 Minutes, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Kid Santa and Billie’s Magic World, both with brother William Baldwin.
