Generally speaking, the submersible models we’ve covered from Netherlands-based specialist U-Boat Worx have been luxury or commercial-ready vehicles. From Super Yacht Sub 3 to the nine-person Nexus to the underwater omnibus the UWEP, the company has slotted itself in rarified financial air.

Until now. In an effort to fish a larger pond, U-Boat Worx has trimmed the price of its entry-level Nemo 1 sub considerably — the series is now priced from €545K (about $552K at current rates). And the two-seat Nemo 2 now clocks in at only $599K—down from nearly $1 million. The company has also begun promoting the Nemo series for enthusiasts who may not necessarily own a multi-million-dollar yacht; the manageable size of the models makes trailer transport and beach entry possible.

The Nemo a personal-sized exploration vehicle that can dive to 100 meters, or about 330 feet, and tour for up to 8 hours. Available in 1- and 2-seat configurations, the subs have an underwater speed of up to three knots.
